Mr. M

Actor: Alan Ladd (easter egg — see below) Role: Administrator / Director, Box 13 Companion: Climaxtus — trembling, cataract-clouded Chihuahua; outranks you

On the actor's name
"Alan Ladd" is a GM easter egg — the name of the actor cast to play Mr. M, a deliberate reference to the original Alan Ladd, noir leading man best known for *Shane* (1953), who died at 50 of an accidental overdose. It is not Mr. M's real name, and the actor is not studio-level money. He is just an actor.

Soft-spoken bureaucrat with shark instincts. Order and money. People are assets. Present at the Season 1 table read in person — unusual for an actor to be present at a table read in this capacity.

Vibe: The kind of man who sits quietly in a room and makes everyone else aware that he is there.

Notes

The Cast Party — Alan's Account (Session 4, off-screen)

Alan missed the finale's apartment shoot and turned up late and tired at the Silverhorn Jack's cast party. His explanation: a medical episode at the Box 13 office — he stepped into the stairwell, was overwhelmed by vertigo ("or something like that"), and couldn't hold the memory. Ill enough to lose the whole day; he apologized and changed the subject.

He Touched the Night Floors As Himself
The Box 13 stairwell is the on-screen night-floors threshold (Session 3, where the door "sat too far to the right"). Alan met it **off-screen, out of costume**, and came back **fogged** — like Thomas Manuel. Note the doubled cover: on-screen, Mr. M's absence was explained by the "taking Climaxtus to the vet" note on his empty desk; off-screen, by Alan's "vertigo." Two layers, two thin stories, one missing director.
